Late October Progress

(From Left) Front: Ellie; Second Row: Mariela, Sha'Boris, Debra, Marima;

As October is coming to a close, the ladies are in the midst of perfecting three routines. One of the three—and possible two of the three—are going to be used as competition routines this spring! Most practices consist of a warm-up, stretching, and learning, changing, and cleaning routines. However, something we have recently added is our Thursday evening workout.

The 12-person team is splits up into two smaller groups, and we all meet at the Alverno Fitness Center for some strength training exercises. We use dumbbells, mats, bosou balls, and any other equipment to become stronger and increase our stamina. With the combination of strength training and step-by-step routine cleaning, there is no doubt in my mind that our talented group is going to be successful. There is only a couple more weeks until our first performance, and I’m confident that we’re going to be ready.

Stretching is key to avoiding injury.

October Dance Team Update

It has come to my attention that family members, friends, and the Alverno community are all interested in hearing about our team’s plans and accomplishments! So far, we have learned one full routine, five sideline routines, and a portion of two other routines. Way to go ladies.

At this point in the season, our team is striving to learn as many routines as possible. We will be learning seven or more routines—two of which being competition routines. However, I will not disclose the songs of any routines. It’s a surprise! Come to an Alverno home women’s basketball game to watch and be entertained.

Fundraisers and Donations

The team is in the midst of planning three funraisers: a bake sale (November), a Dance Clinic for kids (January) and a Bowling fundraiser (TBA). We have also been contacted by a couple local business that are offering donations, which we truly appreciate considering our financial restraints. If you know anyone or any business who/that would like to donate to the dance team, please contact Samantha.hawley@alverno.edu. Thank you, and we will see you in mid-November for our first performance!
